AWS Germany
Groundwater recharge in Bavaria/Hessen + assessed VWB
To address the regional Water use of the AWS data centres in Frankfurt, RESPOND is developing a restoration project in a community forest in the Spessart. Wetlands and sponge forests store rainfall for longer and recharge groundwater. Annually assessed Volumetric Water Benefits (VWB) return measurable Water to the catchment. The project is permanently protected through a foundation.

Stadtwerke Karlsruhe
Water retention in the value chain
Together with Stadtwerke Karlsruhe, RESPOND is developing a pilot project to rewet a degraded forest wetland in the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve. Closing drainage ditches restores the natural sponge function of the site, which already showed first effects in the dry year 2025. This strengthens the Water resilience of the region while the area stays secured and protected long term.
